About

Soup to nuts

I set up everything, soup to nuts

To make your job easier, I handle every step, from the server to the final test. Here’s a look at what happens before and during design. It’s not all about design, although that’s the most fun part for me.

Nothing left for you to figure out

Phase one

Setup, before any design

The behind-the-scenes work that makes a site fast, secure and easy to grow. It gives you an idea of what I have in my arsenal.

Hosting and server setup

Web host server setup and tweaking for speed and security, including DNS changes. Also things like the SSL certificate, PHP version and variables, backups and a staging area (if applicable), caching, email addresses and more.

Install WordPress

Including setting up the database manually if needed, and configuring site settings for things like URL structure, discussion and comment options, company info, admin users and more.

Install and configure security plugins

This is a critical first step to make sure your site is secure from the moment it’s installed. Includes anti-spam setup, a firewall, limited user logins and more.

Install and configure the Divi theme

Including things like your logo, custom color palette, fonts and other global settings. If custom functions are required, I install a child theme.

Install additional plugins

For your specific needs and requirements. This might include SEO, contact forms and integrations, site speed and caching, image compression, analytics tracking and more.

Set up WooCommerce (if needed)

If you need eCommerce, I install WooCommerce along with additional plugins for things like shipping and payments, then add a few test (or real) products and product categories.

Phase two

Then the fun part

Once the foundation is solid, I design and build the site page by page.

Pages and menus

I typically start by adding all the pages to the site without any content. Then I make the navigation menus I think will be needed.

A style guide

At this point, you and I may decide to make a style guide page with custom presets I can use throughout the site. This keeps things consistent and easier to manage.

Header and footer

I then begin with the header and footer designs, making sure they are polished for mobile from the start.

Home page, then the rest

The home page is usually next, with the rest of the pages following soon after.

Store pages (if eCommerce)

I customize the Cart, Shop, My Account, product category and product pages. This includes custom child theme files for the cart and checkout pages that help with conversions.

Test, test, test

And of course, I test, test, test.
